Novocaine, the new action comedy movie opening in theaters this weekend, is a great film to say “goodbye” to stuffy awards movies season, and “hello” to stupid-but-fun movies season.
Directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, with a screenplay written by Lars Jacobson, Novocaine stars Jack Quaid (aka the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan) as a man named Nate Cain. Get it? Nate was born with a peculiar medical condition that prevents him from feeling any pain. One day, Nate hits it off with the girl of his dreams, Sherry (played by Prey star Amber Midthunder), only to witness her get kidnapped by a crew of bank robbers. Nate decides to take advantage of his condition in order to rescue his love interest himself.
