‘Sinners’ Writer Ryan Coogler Thanks Family And Ask Children To Enjoy These Memories

Ryan Coogler took home his first Oscar and the first win of the night for Warner Bros. to a standing ovation but wanted to make sure he calmed the audience down as he knew he had a lot to say in a short amount of time.

“Please sit down, I’m very nervous and they are going to play me off,” Coogler said. “I’m from Oakland, California and we can talk a lot.”

Coogler was seen as the front-runner after taking home the Writers Guild award for best Original Screenplay. Coogler was presented the award by Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans in the night’s mini-Avengers reunion.

Coogler would thank studio co-chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy as well as as his cast and crew asking them to stand up to receive their flowers too. He would go on to thank his wife, mom and dad and
