An American, Israeli and British creative team is coming together to forge a timely doc about an Iranian judo star who defied government orders and risked everything to compete against an Israeli rival.
Fox Entertainment Studios, Israel’s Sipur and The Kardashians maker Fulwell Entertainment are behind Blood Brothers, the latest doc from Emmy-winning We Will Dance Again director Yariv Mozer.
The documentary tells the story of Saeid Mollaei, who was born in Tehran to ethnic Azerbaijani parents. He risked everything to compete against Israeli world champion Sagi Muki in the 2019 championships – an act punishable by death under the regime of Iran’s Supreme Ayatollahs – having been ordered to lose intentionally in the semi-finals to avoid facing Muki. Faced with crushing political pressure, a forbidden friendship emerged, leading to an unforgettable story of courage, honor, sportsmanship and the pursuit of Olympic glory.
