The Northern Iowa Panthers are one of the most surprising entrants into the 2026 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament field. Despite a 23-12 record on the season and a No. 6 seed in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, they took home the league’s title and automatic berth. Now a No. 12 seed in the Big Dance, NIU will face off against the No. 5 St. John’s Red Storm on Friday, March 20. St. John’s won both the regular season and conference tournament titles in the Big East and enters March Madness with a 28-6 record. The two conference champs will tip off at 7:10 p.m. ET in a game airing on CBS.
