‘The Forystes’ Stars Joshua Orpin and Millie Gibson Dish on Playing New Versions of Soames and Irene In The PBS Series: “Insane Amount of Pressure”

Masterpiece on PBS is placing a massive bet on their new period drama The Forsytes. The home of Downton Abbey and All Creatures Great and Small has already given the greenlight to three seasons of the new show before a single episode dropped today.

There’s good reason for Masterpiece‘s outsized confidence in The Forsytes. Besides featuring a star-studded cast and boasting Poldark‘s creator as its showrunner, Masterpiece audiences have long been obsessed with the sordid personal lives of the Forsytes. Masterpiece‘s last two adaptations of John Galsworthy’s Forsyte novels became two of the PBS program’s most popular shows in its historic run.

The 1967 version of The Forsyte Saga was watched by an estimated 160 million people and is credited with starting the period drama genre, as its popularity prompted the creation of shows like Upstairs, Downstairs.
