Stream It Or Skip It: ‘Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole’ On Netflix, Where A Troubled Detective Tracks Down A Serial Killer Who Is Terrorizing Oslo

John Oliver may have made fun of the fact that Netflix was releasing a new series called Detective Hole, but it’s a real show, based on a series of novels by Norwegian novelist Jo Nesbø. The series was also written by Nesbø, and it shows in the nuances of his main character, Harry Hole.

Opening Shot: The getaway car from a fatal bank robbery is spotted by police helicopter. Detective Harry Hole (Tobias Santelmann) gets the call; he’s at a bar about 3 drinks into his night. Harry’s partner joins him, but is killed during the chase when Harry clips a streetcar and their car goes flying.

The Gist:  Five years later, Harry is still examining the security video from that robbery; he sits in front of monitors with his shirt off, due to the excessive heat that’s affecting Oslo. He just
