Rooster, HBO’s new college campus comedy from Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, is only three episodes deep, but it’s already a certified hit.
As Deadline reported, the Steve Carell-led series premiered to a whopping 2.4 million U.S. cross-platform viewers its first three days, which means Rooster has the most-watched U.S. HBO comedy debut since 2015. Cock-a-doodle-doo!
The first three episodes saw bestselling author Greg Russo (Carell), head to Ludlow College to speak to students and check in on his daughter Katie (Charly Clive), a professor whose husband Archie (Phil Dunster) cheated on her with a grad student (Lauren Tsai). Greg initially planned to head back home to Florida after his visit, but he wound up accepting a job at the school until the end of semester, so the father/daughter duo are finding a new relationship dynamic as Greg adjusts to campus.
