Why is streaming putting the cable bundle back together?

The cable bundle: the epitome of TV convenience, or a monstrous attempt to price-gouge consumers? There’s truth to both arguments, but the basic idea of the pay-TV package has remained constant over the years: provide viewers with an all-in-one plan that includes local broadcast channels, premier sports, movies, and entertainment networks, and news channels all in the same place.

In 2026, that role is increasingly being taken over by streaming services. Streamers have supplanted cable as the main source of premium entertainment for American audiences, but a curious thing is happening: streamers are getting more and more like cable bundles. Individual streaming services are teaming up to offer their content to consumers at discounted prices, but why? Streaming broke the cable bundle, but in the aftermath, streamers realized that they had to emulate it to make on-demand video pay.
