American history nerds won’t want to miss A Great Awakening, a new historical drama about Benjamin Franklin and George Whitefield, opening in movie theaters this weekend—just in time for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence.
Directed by Joshua Enck, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Bender and Jonathan Blair, A Great Awakening stars John Paul Sneed as the famed intellectual, inventor, scientist and American Founding Father, Ben Franklin. Jonathan Blair co-stars as Reverend George Whitefield, a founder of the evangelical movement and a friend of Franklin’s. The film maps out Whitefiled and Franklin’s friendship, and how they both impacted the Great Awakening religious movement.
Also starring Josh Bates as Alexander Hamilton, Stephen Foster Harris as William Blount, Zac Johnson as Caleb Strong, and Matt Meyer as Robert Yates, A Great Awakening will no doubt be watched by A.P. U.S. History classes across
