If you never had the privilege of seeing The King perform live, director Baz Luhrmann gifted the world the next best thing: recovered footage of Elvis Presley’s Vegas residency, restored, in a new documentary, EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, which is coming to digital platforms to buy and rent tomorrow.
While he was making his 2022 Elvis biopic, Baz Luhrmann went looking for previously unseen footage of Elvis, and he found it—but it didn’t have sound. Over the next few years, Luhrmann and his team tracked down archival audio and began the long process of syncing it up to the footage and restoring it into something watchable. Now, all that hard work has culminated in Luhrmann’s new documentary, which includes never-before-seen footage of Elvis both on stage and off stage. That includes the famed the “gold jacket” performance in Hawaii in 1957.
