Jessie Buckley just won an Oscar for Hamnet, and now you can watch her in a very different type of role in The Bride!—a new gothic romance loosely based on the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein and the 1818 Mary Shelley novel Frankenstein—which is coming to digital platforms to buy and rent tomorrow.
Written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, who made her writing and directing debut with the 2021 film The Lost Daughter, The Bride stars Oscar front-runner Jessie Buckley as “The Bride,” a resurrected corpse of dead woman, brought to life by Dr. Euphronious (played by Annette Bening). The resurrection comes at the request of Frankenstein’s monster, aka Frank (played by Christian Bale), who is lonely and wishes for a companion. Also starring Peter Sarsgaard, Jake Gyllenhaal (brother to Maggie Gyllenhaal), and Penélope Cruz, The Bride promised to be a wild ride of violence, sex, and gothic romance.
