As much as Dave Filoni tries to build each chapter of the Star Wars universe, whether it’s live-action or animated, into its own entity, there is still an advantage to those who’ve followed the franchise and know the interconnections and timelines. Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, a new animated series on Disney+, more or less stands on its own as an animated series full of chases and blaster fights, but it feels more nihilistic than most of the franchise’s entries, even when you know the entire story.
