If you’ve ever accidentally dropped your phone into a deceptively large puddle or had it drenched from an overturned drink, you know why water resistance is so important. In the past we were told to keep phones in rice overnight to try and dry them out and avoid buying a new phone with no notice. However times have changes, and many devices now have at least some water resistance. Water and dust resistance can be the difference between wiping down your device and having it be a very fancy paper weight.
Not all phones can withstand being dunked in water though, and some shouldn’t be near any liquids. Almost no phones should be taken swimming in a pool, and ocean swimming is completely out of the question, unless you’re using a water-tight case of some kind.
