
For years, installing third-party apps on Android has been straightforward for users willing to go outside Google’s Play Store. That freedom, though, is about to come with an extra layer of inconvenience: Google is preparing new security measures that will soon make sideloading a much longer process—unless you know how to bypass them.
Why Is Google Putting New Limits on Sideloading?
Most Android users download apps from the Play Store, but some still opt to install apps manually—a process known as sideloading—by downloading APK files from outside sources. Google has historically been wary of this practice for security reasons, and the company is now stepping up its efforts to discourage it.
According to reports, starting in August 2026, any Android user who sideloads an app will face a mandatory 24-hour waiting period before they can use it. This measure comes alongside increased warnings about the risks of installing apps
