‘Half Man’ Review: A Startlingly Honest Symphony Of Anger, Violence, And Brotherhood

Almost two years after the success of Baby Reindeer, Richard Gadd has returned with the new HBO limited series Half Man, a searing new portrait of the ways in which masculinity and violence intertwine.

Gadd cemented himself as a talent to watch after writing and starring in Netflix’s award-winning series Baby Reindeer in 2024. While the message of Baby Reindeer sometimes felt mired in Donny Dunn’s irony and avoidance, Gadd more clearly addresses the thorny subject of masculinity through Ruben Pallister (Gadd) and Niall Kennedy’s (Jamie Bell) charged brotherhood in this new limited series, which premieres Thursday, April 24 on HBO and HBO Max.
