Reminders of Him (now streaming on VOD platforms like Amazon Prime Video) is the new entry in the Pronoun Cinematic Universe, following 2024’s hit It Ends With Us and 2025’s lesser hit (but still pretty much a hit) Regretting You, all adaptations of bestsellers by Colleen Hoover, the heir to Nicholas Sparks’ weepy-romance throne. Where Sparks’ stories were inevitably undone by their gruesomely soppy and sincere contrivances – which usually involved killing off his characters by brandishing melodrama like a two-handed warclub – Hoover’s are distinguished by their ludicrous, post-ironic soap operatics, which I’ve previously described as “junkola that knows it’s junkola but winkingly pretends it’s not.” Reminders is relatively toned-down compared to its sillier predecessors, and that’s because it landed the most serious actor to headline a Hoover adaptation yet, Maika Monroe.
