Michael came in higher in both its domestic and global take respectively with $97.2M and $218.8M worldwide.
The Lionsgate produced and released feature stateside saw a Sunday of $25.4M ($400K more than expected), which repped a -22% hold off Saturday’s $32.4M.
Foreign was $121.6M from 82 territories, versus the $120.3M reported yesterday by Universal.
Again, Michael is the second biggest MPA global opening weekend YTD behind Super Mario Galaxy ($372.5M) and in like-for-like markets and today’s exchange ranges, Michael‘s opening frame is the biggest ever for a musical biopic (and that’s with an without previews, and with and without China).
In 64 territories, Michael notched the highest grossing opening for a musical biopic, apart from China (now at $4.8M), which opened just below Bohemian Rhapsody.
