‘A Minecraft Movie’ Comes to Digital, But When Will The ‘Minecraft’ Movie Be Streaming Free on HBO Max?

A Minecraft Movie is releasing on video-on-demand tomorrow, much to the relief of the poor movie theater workers who have dealing with rowdy crowds. Now, at least, if kids throw popcorn in celebration of Chicken Jockey, it will be the parents’ problem.

Directed by Napoleon Dynamite filmmaker Jared Hess, with a team of five dudes credited with writing the script, (Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener, Gavin James, and Chris Galletta), A Minecraft Movie is based on the popular video game of the same name, launched in 2011 by Mojang Studios. The film tells the story of four human misfits (played by Jason Momoa, Sebastian Hansen, Emma Myers, and Danielle Brooks) who are sucked in the world of the video game, aka a wacky world where everything is built from cubes under the direction of master crafter Steve (played by Jack Black).

The movie was a box office smash hit, earning over $909
