Andy Warhol Collaborator Richard Bernstein Subject Of Doc ‘Gloss And Grit: The Man Who Made Art Pop’

EXCLUSIVE: Richard Bernstein, the American artist associated with pop art and the circle ofAndy Warhol, is the subject of new documentary Gloss and Grit: The Man Who Made Art Pop.

The film, directed by Maria Soccor, will feature interviews with “Baby” Jane Holzer, Billy Idol, Mariel Hemingway, Pat Cleveland, Billy Zane, Maxwell Caulfield and others.

Bernstein is best known as the long-running cover artist for Warhol’s influential Interview magazine. His 189 celebrity portrait covers helped define the visual identity of the publication throughout the 1970s and ’80s.

Currently in production in New York and LA, the documentary will explore Bernstein’s life and work, told through interviews with former Interview editors and photographers, as well as some of his most iconic portrait subjects and closest friends. His subjects included Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, Madonna, Mick Jagger, Kevin Costner, and Cyndi Lauper.
