Miya Cech (Surfside Girls, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah) has landed the key role of fan-favorite Earthbender, Toph, in the upcoming second season of Netflix‘s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, which has started production. The casting was unveiled at Netflix’s Geeked Week live event Thursday with a teaser, which you can watch below.
Ever since Avatar: The Last Airbender was renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 by Netflix, fans have been buzzing about the role of the powerful, tiny Earthbender Toph Beifong, with some calling the casting decision a make-or-break for the series as Toph is considered one of the most important, beloved characters of the franchise.
To find a young Asian actor for the blind teen character, Netflix in June launched an Open Casting Call, which encouraged blind and low vision performers to submit.
