EXCLUSIVE: Altered Innocence has acquired North American rights to Matapanki, the debut feature from Chilean filmmaker Diego “Mapache” Fuentes.
The film recently had its European premiere in the Generation 14+ section at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival, where it earned a Special Mention from the international jury.
Set against the backdrop of suburban Chile, the film follows Ricardo, “a directionless punk whose life of cheap booze, raves, and caring for his ailing grandmother takes an unexpected turn when he discovers that a mysterious homemade liquor unleashes superpowers with each drink. What begins as a delirious personal fantasy of reshaping society spirals into chaos when Ricardo’s reckless quest collides with political corruption and espionage that triggers a global battle of epic proportions.”
The deal was negotiated between Frank Jaffe from Altered Innocence and Monica Ciarli from Minerva Pictures.
