In a world full of prestige organized crime dramas, it’s unexpectedly refreshing to get a quality crime comedy — especially one as fresh and funny as Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott’s Big Mistakes.
The Netflix series’ first eight episodes follow siblings Nicky (Levy) and Morgan (Taylor Ortega), who make a series of *Pretty Woman voice* big mistakes, HUGE!, that lead to their unwilling involvement with nefarious criminals.
While they briefly manage to return to their regular lives as upstanding New Jersey citizens (Nicky’s a pastor, and Morgan’s a school teacher), after Nicky’s boyfriend Tareq (Jacob Gutierrez) gets scammed, a desperate Nicky returns to crime boss Ivan (Mark Ivanir) to make a deal. If Nicky and Morgan accompany Ivan and ex-con Andrei (Ilia Volok) to Miami to reassure the Brazilian cartel they have what it takes to move their cocaine, Ivan will help get Tareq’s money back.
