Does Homelander Kill Ryan? ‘The Boys’ Season 5, Ep 3 Ending Explained

The Boys Season 5, Episode 3 gives Homelander’s son Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) the showdown he tragically needed.

Butcher (Karl Urban) has always seen Homelander (Antony Starr) as a threat to human existence, but Ryan has long been at the center of their feud. Season 4 saw Butcher try to recruit Ryan to The Boys’ efforts in trying to end Homelander, with disastrous results: Ryan, feeling trapped, ended up killing Grace and going back on the run.

By the time Ryan returns in Season 5, Episode 3, it’s clear that his character is stuck between two extremes in Homelander and Butcher: If he sticks by Homelander’s side, he can also become a god. But Butcher puts it in no uncertain terms when Ryan confesses that he’s struggling to avoid hurting others. “Without Supes, the world is a better, safer place,” he tells Ryan over a beer.
