Hulu Officially Scraps ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ TV Series

Hulu has officially scrapped its planned TV adaptation of A Court of Thorns and Roses, the hit romantasy series by Sarah J. Maas.

The project, developed by Disney’s 20th Television, had been in the works at Hulu since March 2021.

Maas collaborated on the script with Outlander creator Ronald D. Moore, but updates on the adaptation remained scarce. Progress stalled further in 2023 due to industry-wide writers’ and actors’ strikes that put most scripted productions on hold.

In February 2024, TVLine reported that the series was no longer moving forward at Hulu and wouldn’t be pitched to other networks. At the time, sources told Variety that while the show was still technically under contract, it was no longer in active development. Disney’s 20th Television holds the rights until late summer 2025.

According to Variety, insiders say Maas intends to take ACOTAR to a new studio once Disney’s option expires.
