Is ‘Nickel Boys’ Streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime?

As we get closer to nominations for the 2025 Oscars, it’s looking more and more likely that RaMell Ross’s film adaptation of Nickel Boys is going to get some love.

Based on Colson Whitehead’s 2019 novel Nickel Boys—which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction—this film tells the harrowing true story of a Florida reform school for boys that was exposed for abusing students, including beatings, rapes, torture, and murder. The school operated for over 100 years, from 1900 to 2011, before it was finally shut down. Whitehead’s novel takes place over two timelines, one in the 1960s, and one in the 2010s, and tells the story of a Nickel student named Elwood (played in the movie Ethan Herisse) and his friend, Turner (Brandon Wilson).
