If you’re in the mood for an uplifting, inspiring drama, go ahead and watch Rule Breakers in theaters this weekend.
Directed by Bill Guttentag, with a screenplay written by Guttentag, Jason Brown, and Elaha Mahboob, Rule Breakers is based on the true story of a group of girls from Afghanistan who achieved international fame when they entered a robotics competition, despite the fact that the were not legally allowed to touch computers, or even leave their own home without a male companion.
Nikohl Boosher stars as the real-life computer technician and business woman Roya Mahboob, who lead her team in the competition, and eventually went on to become the founder and CEO of Afghan Citadel Software Company, a software development company based in based in Herat, Afghanistan.
