Robert De Niro may be 81 years old, but he’s still the mafia movie king, and his latest crime thriller, The Alto Knights, opens in theaters this weekend.
Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Barry Levinson, and written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi (who co-wrote Goodfellas), The Alto Knights looks like an old-school throwback for wise guy cinephiles. De Niro stars in dual roles in the film—rival gang leaders Vito Genovese and Frank Costello—based real mob bosses in the New York City Italian mafia in the 1950s. If you just finished binging The Sopranos, this is the movie for you.
