France is keeping the tradition of the romantic comedy alive with Jane Austen Wrecked My Life—aka Jane Austen a gâché ma vie, in French— a new, modern French rom-com that captures the spirit of Jane Austen novels.
Written and directed by Laura Piani, Jane Austen Wrecked My Life stars Camille Rutherford as Agathe Robinson, a French bookseller who tries her hand at writing a romance novel, and finds herself at the Jane Austen Residency, a real-life two-week writing retreat, as a result. There, she meets the handsome Oliver (Charlie Anson), who just so happens to be a descendant of Jane Austen herself. But what about Agathe’s faithful friend Felix (Pablo Pauly), with whom she shared a kiss before absconding on her trip? That sure sounds like a classic love triangle to me.
