The 2025 Wedding Banquet movie with Bowen Yang opens in theaters this weekend, proving that the art of the Hollywood remake is not yet dead.
This remake of Ang Lee’s 1993 romantic comedy—which, sadly, is not currently available on digital platforms—has been modernized for the present-day, but still revolves around the central plot of a gay immigrant (in this case, Min, played by Han Gi-chan) who gets a green-card marriage to a gay woman (in this case, Angela, played by Kelly Marie Tran) despite their lack of real romantic relationship. This doesn’t sit well with Angela’s girlfriend, Lee (Lily Gladstone), or Min’s boyfriend, Chris (Bowen Yang). But to be fair, Chris had his chance to marry Min, and turned him down. As you might imagine, shenanigans ensue.
