Melissa Barrera is on her way to becoming a true scream queen with a new indie horror comedy, Your Monster, opening in theaters this weekend. It’s also Barrera’s first leading role since she was unceremoniously fired from the Scream franchise, after she called for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Written and directed by Caroline Lindy, and based on Linday’s 2019 short of the same name, Your Monster stars Barrera as Laura Franco, a young cancer patient recovering from a major surgery and a broken heart. While mourning her break-up and putting her life back together, she discovers a monster (played by Tommy Dewey) in her closet. And honestly? She could use the company.
