
A federal judge clarified his injunction to make it clear that below ground construction of a bunker on the White House grounds could proceed, but that above-ground work on Donald Trump‘s ballroom has to stop.
U.S. District Judge Richard Leon issued a preliminary injunction last month that prohibited ballroom construction, but made an exception for “actions strictly necessary to ensure the safety and security of the White House and its grounds.” National security facilities are being built below the proposed ballroom, which is taking the place of the now demolished East Wing. The bunker will include medical facilities and secure communications, among other installations.
The Trump team “now seek to turn this exception on its head and unreasonably insist that the entire ballroom project may proceed,” Leon wrote.
