Jurnee Smollett Wants To Return As Jess In Peacock’s ‘Friday Night Lights’ Reboot: “I’m Waiting For The Call, Man!”

It’s been 14 years since NBC’s beloved high school football drama Friday Night Lights ended its five-season run, but fans of the hit series — including star Jurnee Smollett — are still saying, “Texas forever!”

When Decider spoke with Smollett about her upcoming Apple TV+ series, Smoke, which premieres on June 27, we asked the Friday Night Lights alum if she’d be open to reprising her role as Jess Merriweather in Peacock‘s upcoming reboot, which has several members of the original creative team on board, including director Peter Berg, executive producer Brian Grazer, and showrunner Jason Katims.

“I’m waiting for the call, man!” Smollett said with a laugh when asked if she’d consider returning to the Friday Night Lights universe in some capacity. “Jason Katims is truly one of the greatest writers we’ve ever had, and so I always love, love saying his words.”
