Michael Montemayor, the rising screenwriter with a growing social media following, has signed with CAA.
The signing comes in the wake of Montemayor selling Court Date, an original feature pitch, to Netflix, earlier in April. Berlanti/Schechter Films, the feature banner run by prolific TV mavens Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, is producing.
Montemayor is currently working on Disney’s live-action remake of Tangled, which Michael Gracey is directing and is due to go into production later this spring. Previously, he wrote Stepsisters, a live-action re-imagining of Cinderella focused on her two step-siblings, which attracted Akiva Schaffer as a director.
Montemayor began his career as a writer’s assistant to Dana Fox, the veteran rom-com scribe who most recently penned the Wicked movies, while she worked on Cruella for Disney and The Lost City for Paramount.
