Jimmy Kimmel has caught backlash online from critics, including Meghan McCain, who were jarred by a joke he made about the newly appointed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary, Markwayne Mullin.
The late-night host teased “a whole new generation of thinkers lined up” under President Donald Trump on Tuesday night’s (March 24) Jimmy Kimmel Live!, referring to the former Oklahoma Senator and “newly confirmed” DHS Secretary.
“Before he was elected to the Senate, Markwayne Mullin was a low-level MMA fighter and a plumber,” Kimmel said. “That’s right. We have a plumber protecting us from terrorism now. It worked for Super Mario, why not Markwayne?”
Kimmel proceeded to call out the president’s cabinet selections, quipping that “if Trump is going to keep picking these unqualified people to run the department, why not have more fun with it?”
“I mean, next time, instead of Markwayne, why not Lil Wayne for Homeland Security?”
