Meta Ordered To Pay $375M In New Mexico Social Media Verdict; LA Jury Still Deliberating After A Week

After a week of deliberations, jurors in the Los Angeles social media trial are still having a hard time coming to a decision, but a New Mexico panel swiftly found Meta was neglect in protecting minors from predators on its various social media platforms.

A move that will cost the owners of Facebook and Instagram up to $375 million in penalties, the jury determined.

Returning a verdict after a day of deliberations, the Land of Enchantment jury declared Tuesday that the Mark Zuckerberg-founded tech giant violated the state’s consumer protection laws. The $375 million figure, which you can be assured Meta will appeal, come from the maximum penalty of $5,000 per violation under New Mexico law – do the math.

Meta, which saw a depostion of Zuckerberg played earlier this month for the potentially ground breaking trial, did not respond to request from Deadline this afternoon
