Own a Streaming Device? It’s Probably Tracking You

Pretty much everyone’s got a streaming device these days, whether it’s a Fire Stick, Roku, Apple TV or Chromecast. They make it super easy to binge your favorite shows across dozens of apps. But what most people don’t realize is that those same devices are keeping tabs on you too.

Smart TVs and streaming platforms usually track what you watch, when you watch it and how you use their apps. That data gets used to “improve your experience,” but more often than not, it just means more targeted ads and algorithm-curated suggestions.

Sure, those ads might help keep your device affordable, but all that background tracking adds up. If you’re uncomfortable with companies tracking your viewing habits, it might be time to dig into your settings and regain some control.
