Digital cameras tried their best, but they couldn’t beat film photography entirely. Analog imagery is very much having a renaissance right now, and social media’s love of “the film look” has played a big part in that. Not to mention celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Frank Ocean and a plethora of others only too keen to flaunt their film online and in interviews. Film photography offers a very different experience from taking a photo with your phone or digital camera. It’s less about that instant gratification and more about taking the time to appreciate the moment and truly considering the image you want to capture.
Aside from instant film, which is used in cameras like a Fuji Instax or a Polaroid, you also have to wait for your film to be developed and the images scanned or printed. It can be incredibly rewarding and a satisfying process, especially if you’re the one doing it all.
