It’s only been one month since the latest Scream film, Scream 7, opened in theaters, but the movie is already coming to digital platforms to buy tomorrow.
Even though original franchise star Neve Campbell is back in Scream 7, after not appearing in the sixth film due to contract disputes, it’s hard to celebrate that news knowing that that star of the last two films, Melissa Barrera, was fired from the franchise in November 2023, after the actress criticized Israel’s inhumane attacks on Palestine, in the wake of the Hamas-led October 7 attack. She was one of the few celebrities that voiced support for Palestine at the time (though many more have since), and she was swiftly punished for doing so, with the production company behind the slasher film accusing her of “antisemitism.” Jenna Ortega, who played Barrera’s on-screen sister, also exited the horror franchise.
