Sesame Street Will Enter its Netflix Era, and Cookie Monster Approves

After its deal ended with the Max streaming service, (now HBO Max) Sesame Street is finding a new home on Netflix, the company announced Monday. Season 56 will kick off with new episodes to air later this year, along with 90 hours of past episodes available to Netflix’s global subscriber base. Cookie Monster helped share the announcement — and his excitement — with an energetic “Whoa” that tells us this is a surprise that fans of all ages can look forward to. 

Netflix plans to stream the show in a new format with “episodes [that] will now center on one 11-minute story, allowing for even more character-driven humor and heart.” However, you’ll still be able to watch Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck, and Sesame Street will continue to drop episodes on local PBS stations and all PBS Kids digital platforms as simulcasts.
