Sonos is reportedly getting close to launching a product in a new category: a premium streaming box, set to rival options from Apple and Roku.
The Verge reports the streaming video player will offer surround sound that works with its other speakers and also act as an HDMI switch to pair with other hardware, such as gaming consoles. It’s expected to have an interface that pulls from various services, including Netflix, Max and Disney Plus, and can be controlled by both voice and a physical remote.
The device, which has been rumored for awhile and is said to be codenamed Pinewood, is expected to be costly, ranging between $200 and $400. In contrast, an Apple TV 4K with Wi-Fi is priced at $129, while the Roku Ultra is $79.
