If you watched the new Tyler Perry movie on Netflix, Straw—which began streaming today—then you know that Straw ends with a wild plot twist. Not even star Taraji P. Henson saw it coming.
“When I was reading it, I was like, ‘Oh, shit!’” Henson told Decider with a laugh in a recent interview.
Straw is that latest melodramatic thriller from writer/director Tyler Perry, starring Henson as a struggling single mother who finally reaches her breaking point. (Or her final straw, you might say.) The film, produced by Perry’s company, Tyler Perry Studios, also stars Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, Sinbad, Rockmond Dunbar, Ashley Versher, Mike Merrill, and Glynn Turman. Comedian Sinbad also has a small role. Henson grounds the movie with her compelling performance. But when it comes to the Straw ending, the plot really spirals out of control.
