The (sigh) Twisted Childhood Universe marches on with Bambi: The Reckoning (now streaming on Peacock), another LOOK MA, I’M SUBVERSIVE! riff on kiddie-content faves that recently hit the public domain. Now, there’s something to be said for jabbing Disney in the tender parts of the bum, since that unholy conglomerate spearheaded the exploitation of available intellectual property nearly a century ago. But there are funny and/or clever and/or entertaining ways to do it, and then there’s the TCU, which, with two Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey films, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare and this here rampaging-mutant-deer flick, has thus far exhibited a remarkable ability to be cheap, moronic and, worst of all, boring as all hell. Pinocchio: Unstrung and Poohinverse: Monsters Assemble are reportedly on deck, so I guess it’s time to bust out the Metamucil and get down to business watching them.
