Sisu: Road to Revenge (now on Netflix) is Planes, Trains and Automobiles gone psychotically violent, Tom and Jerry if it actually showed blood and Mad Max: Fury Road on, well, a sliver of the budget. Which is to say, this Finnish slab of ultraviolence kicks heaping piles of ass. Its predecessor, 2022 sleeper hit Sisu, established Jorma Tommila as a nigh-unkillable protagonist who slaughtered Nazis in various inventive and highly entertaining ways – and as the embodiment of the title thing, a Finnish concept embodying stoicism and perseverance. Well, our guy gets a chance to exercise it again, as director Jalmari Helander returns for the sequel, which pits our hero against a Rooshyun bootcher played by B-movie king/Avatar mainstay Stephen Lang (you can’t say the guy hasn’t had a varied and interesting career). And you are hereby encouraged to pump your fist.
