
EXCLUSIVE: Sundance Institute and Sandbox Films on Monday announced the 16 projects and 47 filmmakers receiving support this year through the Sundance Institute | Sandbox Fund.
Focused on innovative nonfiction storytelling exploring the link between science and culture, the fund has distributed grants to teams behind films at all stages, from development to post-production, since 2017.
Supported projects have roots in 11 countries: Denmark, Guatemala, Iceland, India, Kazakhstan, Kenya, North Macedonia, Portugal, Russia, United Kingdom, and the United States, with 75% directed by artists from historically marginalized communities. Half of the projects are from first- or second-time feature documentary directors, with five marking the debut feature for their director.
