I review dozens upon dozens of laptops each year for CNET and have reviewed hundreds of models over the years. The MacBook Air is my favorite overall laptop, particularly the larger of the two sizes that Apple offers for it. The 15-inch MacBook Air sits in the sweet spot of productivity, portability and price. Its roomy 15.3-inch display is better for multitasking than the smaller model’s 13.6-inch screen, and it’s still impressively thin and lightweight. It lets you get a big display without needing to pay a premium for a MacBook Pro.
Apple updated the MacBook Air with its latest M5 processor earlier this month, but last year’s M4 models are still available — and at deep discounts for Amazon’s Big Spring Sale. The better deal is for my preferred MacBook Air, the 15-incher.
