Movies and TV shows have long been obsessed with revisiting the ’80s, and few have done it as successfully as Stranger Things. The hit Netflix series thrives on its meticulously crafted nostalgia, drawing audiences into its retro world. However, not all period pieces pull it off so seamlessly. Despite the best efforts to re-create an era, small inaccuracies or modern sensibilities can break immersion, making it difficult to truly feel transported back in time.
That’s why I was drawn to The House of the Devil, director Ti West’s brilliant exercise in chilling retro realism. It’s available to stream with an AMC Plus subscription or for free on Tubi, one of the best free streaming services available.
