Since the deadly accident that took Preston and Paul, during their short stay in Montana, Stacy Clyburn and her family have discovered a friendly local community. These are people who will make you a casserole, help mend your fence, or drive you into town. They’re accustomed to going above and beyond, because that’s what life in Montana dictates. (Unlike New York City, which Taylor Sheridan’s writing for The Madison has characterized as a lawless, selfish hellscape.) Because Montanans believe in help, at the hillside spot, Deputy Van and Cade Harris have dug the graves of Preston and Paul by hand. And despite Stacy’s “back to the land” explorations, despite Van standing with Abby during the ceremony, this family could not look more New York City. Stacy even leaves early. All of them continue to be displaced, disoriented, and in dismay over the death of the man who was their center.
