Another one of Disney‘s biggest animated movies is getting the live-action treatment as Moana comes to life. Star Dwayne Johnson took the stage to debut new footage of the film at the studio’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas on Thursday.

“I lived with this character of Maui for 10-plus years,” said Johnson, who reprises his role of demigod that he played in the 2016 animated original and 2024’s sequel. “The animated version was just an amazing experience for us as Polynesian people.” He added, “The character of Maui was deeply inspired by my grandfather.” The star went on to grab his phone to share a photo of his late grandfather, leading to applause from the crowd: “This is for you, High Chief.”
