
Vincent D’Onofrio is proof that sometimes the biggest breaks come disguised as something you almost ignore—or, in his case, hang up on.
During a Thursday night appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the Daredevil: Born Again star recalled the early-career mistake that nearly cost him his shot at Full Metal Jacket.
At the time, D’Onofrio was working the floor at the Hard Rock Cafe on 57th Street in New York, still trying to break into film. A chance run-in with his friend Matthew Modine—who was on a break from shooting a movie—set things in motion. When D’Onofrio asked what he was working on, Modine revealed it was a Stanley Kubrick film and passed along an address where aspiring actors could submit materials.
